Elementary School Years

Elementary

Guidance through CSE meetings, IEPs, and school-based support as your child grows.

What This Service Covers

Making Sure School Works for Your Child

Once your child enters elementary school, the Committee on Special Education (CSE) becomes the central process for making sure they receive the right support in the classroom. We help families request initial evaluations when a concern first arises, understand evaluation results, and prepare for CSE meetings where eligibility and services are decided.

For children who already have an Individualized Education Program (IEP), we help parents understand exactly what's in it — goals, related services like speech or occupational therapy, classroom placement (such as Integrated Co-Teaching or a smaller special class ratio), and any accommodations or modifications — and make sure the plan is actually being followed at school.

We also help families prepare for annual reviews and triennial reevaluations, and step in when a child's needs change and services need to be adjusted mid-year.
